Organic and inorganic inhibitors are generally expensive and toxic and have adverse effects on the environment and limit the use of these inhibitors against corrosion. Coatings are most commonly used to protect metals against corrosion. However, due to the poor resistance of the polymer coating to the penetration of the corrosive solution into the metal/coating joint surface, the long-term corrosion resistance of the polymer coating is gradually reduced.
Nanoparticles have recently been added to coatings to improve the chemical, mechanical and optical properties. Nanocoatings are used effectively to reduce the impact of the corrosive environment due to their various preferences such as surface hardness, adhesive quality, long-range and corrosion resistance at high temperatures, improving its tribological properties, etc. In addition, nanocoatings can be used in a thinner and smoother thickness, which allows for compatibility in equipment design and lower maintenance and labor costs.
